Rev. Ted Mattie recently announced his retirement date of Aug. 31, 2016. He shared the following with the congregation of First PC in Port Angeles:
Before I pronounce the benediction, I want to make an important announcement.
I have notified the Presbytery of the Northwest Coast and the Session of this Church of my decision to retire from my position as Pastor on August 31, 2016.
I came to Port Angeles to be your Assistant Pastor in 1979 at the age of 28. You called me to be your Pastor at the age of 33. I will turn 65 in March so it seems like the appropriate time for you to embrace new leadership and for Marilyn and me to explore new activities and avenues of service.
To facilitate the establishment of new leadership here and a new life for us, Marilyn and I will be moving initially to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where we will be one hour north of our daughter Beth, son-in-law Dan Cadol, and granddaughters Abby and Dru.
In this season of thanksgiving, thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking a chance on a young, inexperienced pastor, nurturing him and his family, and allowing him to grow in his faith and in his ministry.
With God’s help, we have done some amazing things in the past 36 years.
With God’s help, we will do some amazing things in the next 9 ½ months.
With God’s help, we will do some amazing things after that as well.
More information will be forthcoming as we move forward but for now... go forth to celebrate Christ as your king. May the God of peace grant you peace at all times in all ways. Amen.
