Invitation from Barry Crane, Pastor @ North Sound Church:
Dear Fellow Faith Community Leaders,
After the tragic church shootings in recent times, I approached the Edmonds Police Department about training for our church staff and hospitality team to be able to keep our congregants as safe as possible in the event of an active shooter situation or any disruption of our services. The police department put us in touch with former police officer Timothy Durand, who now heads up React Solutions (https://www.activethreatsolutions.org/).
We have scheduled a training event for our leadership and hospitality team on Tuesday, March 6th, at 7 pm, at the North Sound Center, 201 4th Ave N. in Edmonds . If you think this training would be of value to your congregation we invite you to join us with your church leadership, ushers, greeters, etc. There is no charge for this training event.
We look forward to insights into how to make our churches increasingly safe for those who attend. Tim has indicated his presentation would include items such as:
- The how and why of a current police response (this helps develop individual response plans).
- The Priority of Life Scale as it pertains to your situation.
- General observation and threat recognition skills (Pre-Attack Indicators).
- Personal empowerment.
- Denial and how to help overcome Normalcy Bias.
- The Active Threat Plan.
- Crisis Communication, some tips for talking to angry, upset people.
He has indicated the training will be helpful for dealing with disruptive people as well as active shooters.
If you would like to join us for this event could you please respond to Sue Johnson with the name of your congregation and the number of folks who will be attending? Sue Johnson, email@example.com or 425-776-9800.
